Dear Ferndale, In the 1936 Electoral Roll :
John Forgan : Burrum Street, Bundaberg : Shire Clerk Henrietta Forgan : Burrum Street, Bundaberg ; Home duties Charles Roy Forgan : 41 Crofton Street, Bundaberg : Butcher Grace Isabel Forgan: 41 Crofton Street, Bundaberg : Home Duties Glendinning Gordon Forgan : Bourbon Estate, Bundaberg : Clerk Isabella Kinross Forgan : Bourbon Estate, Bundaberg : Home Duties Leslie John Forgan : Nambour : Carter Minnie Emerald Forgan: Nambour: Home Duties
I couldn't find James Reginald or Beryl in 1936, but here they are in 1925 James Reginald Forgan : Woodford (division of Wide Bay) : Farmer Leslie John Forgan : The Springs, Woodford : Farmer Beryl Eileen Forgan : Children's Hospital, Brisbane : Nurse
Can't seem to definitely locate Jessie Doris, and William wouldn't show up as he wouldn't have been old enough to vote. Harold Paterson doesn't show up either.
The family seems to move around Qld a lot........their first listing in 1905 is "The Hummock", Kalkie (Division of Wide Bay). Johnis listed as an accountant and Henrietta as domestic duties.
Cheers Susie

Hi Ferndale I've just found this post and note that you mention Mary Pierpoint. I have two branches of the Pierpoint family in Queensland and was wondering whether your Mary belonged to one of them. My Mary Pierpoint was the daughter of Joseph and Ethel Pierpoint and was born 23/12/1912. Crows nest, Queensland. There may be other Mary Pierpoints I have not found yet. Do you have any further details? Tofgem

Hi, my name is Lynette Forgan. I am the granddaughter of Charles Roy Forgan. My father Roland John, (now deceased) was Charles' 2nd son. (*) Charles' wife was Grace. Her surname was Wissman. The pair met in Bundaberg, north Queensland in the early 1930s. Charles worked in a butcher's in Bundaberg owned by his brother Glendenning, in Bourbong Street, and met Grace at the hospital where she worked and where he delivered supplies. --- Charlie's father was John Forgan. John was employed as Manager of Windermere Plantation (a large old cane farming concern, now a part of Bundaberg Sugar), then as Shire Clerk for the Woongarra Shire Council (disappeared years ago with boundary amalgamations). Upon retirement, they moved to Brisbane - Norman Park I think. I believe John was an accountant.
John's children (in Charlie's family) were - Jimmy, Beryl, Les, Glendenning, Charlie (my Dad Roland's father), Harold, and Jessie - not sure of the order, but I am sure all were born in Bundaberg. Charlie was born and grew up in Bundaberg, married Grace Wissman there, and they have a deceased infant Roy, buried in the old Forgan plot at the general cemetery. The child died of meningitis when he was about 2 and to her dying day, living to be in her 90s, Grace still mourned him. (Grace's family was in Mulgrave street, and after their marriage Charlie and Grace lived in Powers street. Glendenning Forgan had a butcher shop in Bourbong street Bundaberg near the railway station, and Charlie worked in it with him, which is why he was delivering to the hospital. When that went broke, Charlie and Grace moved to Brisbane and Charlie worked on the wharves, then had a seedling nursery at Sunnybank. (Woff Street to Mulgowie Street.) Queensland Premier William Forgan-Smith was a cousin to Charlie and Glendenning and their siblings. I think Forgan-Smith's mother was a sister of Charlie's father John, making William cousin to my grandfather Charlie.
Glendenning is long dead. His son, John Gordon, known as Gordon, and Glendenning's daughter Betty are still alive but very old. Glendenning's grandson Gilbert, and his wife Lynne, live in Bundaberg and Lynne is involved in politics on the local council.
Charlie's mother, Henrietta, (nee Farraway) lived to be one week off 100. She lived with Charlie and Grace in Mulgowie Street, Sunnybank and I have vague memories of her. Charlie died about 1975 from a blood clot after losing a leg two years prior to diabetes and Grace died about late 1998.
Hope that helps.

Hi Lynette,
Please accept my deepest apologies for not replying to your wonderful information sooner.
I have been on the sick list since Easter so I'm sorry to say everything has been put on the back burner.
Hopefully replying to all our lovely helpful Rootschatters is a good sign that things are on the up and up.
I have quite a bit of info re the Forgans including some Scottish BMD's etc if you are interested and I am willing to share.
My Uncle in conversation mentioned that he was related to William Forgan Smith whose mother of course was Mary, so I just had to get confirmation of that.
Unfortunately there were a couple of Mary Forgans's born in 1850, so was not sure if it was just family heresay, or which Mary.
Lynette I don't know if you know your way around yet, but if you click on the little green scroll on the left, you can send me a personal message and we can exchange "living people" info etc.
My uncle is son of Leslie John Forgan B1891 Qld., and Minnie Emerald Jenkens.
I have not figured out yet who William Forgan Smith came and stayed with in Qld. In one of the write ups on his career etc., it says he stayed with his Aunt!!!!??? in Nth Qld.
Well my dear I must away. I still have a few more apologies to send. Hope to hear from you again soon. Cheers for now Dale.

Hi Tofgem,
Please accept my deepest apologies for my very late reply. I have been on the sick list since Easter, and still not feeling A1, but very much better than I was at Easter.
As you can see I have very little information most of which is from the IGI or Queensland Births, Deaths and Marriages.
Mary has Married into the Forgan Family (of which I have quite a bit of information), and a Forgan married my mother's youngest sister, and it is for him that I am doing the research for as a Gift for his 80th Birthday.
He is my sole surviving Uncle on both sides of the family, so he is kinda special.
Hope this is of some help to you. Please let me know if there is anything else I can do from this end.
Cheers for now Dale.

Hi Ferndale Sorry to hear that you have been ill. I hope that you are on the mend. My apologies for not replying sooner, but I did not receive notification of your reply - probably because the thread is now 'completed'. I found it purely by chance. However.....
We obviously have the same Mary Pierpoint. Thank you very much for your information. I am trying to put together a history of the family of George and Harriet Pierpoint who emigrated to Australia in 1865/66 (they sailed in December 1865 and arrived in April 1866). I can complete the immediate family of George and Harriet if you would like me to (you have some children missing).
Do you know anything more about Mary and James? I must admit I haven't really looked yet as I have become engrossed in George and Harriet and their lives both in England and Australia. I tend to get side tracked very easily. Do you know where Mary and James lived, did they have any family? in fact anything.
