« on: Sunday 05 April 09 10:10 BST (UK) »

HERE IS A MYSTERY. THOMAS WILLIAM BRYANT BORN 1914, BRIGHTON FATHER GEORGE HENRY BRYANT AND MOTHER LILY STRETTON/STREATON MARRIED IN BRIGHTON. GEORGE DIES IN WWI THOMAS GOES INTO A CHILDREN'S HOME WHICH ONE I DO NOT KNOW. THERE IS NO BIRTH FOR GEORGE OR LILY. GEORGE'S PARENTS WERE WILLIAM AND MARY GRACE OF 72 HANOVER STREET BRIGHTON.
HOWEVER THE MYSTERY BESIDES NO RECORDS FOR GEORGE AND LILY IS THAT MY AUNT ALWAYS BELIEVED THAT A ELIZABETH TUPPEN BORN 1887 IN WILLINGDON, EASTBOURNE WAS HER GRANDMOTHER THOMAS'S MOTHER AND LILY HIS HALF SISTER. WE HAVE A BIRTH AND DEATH FOR ELIZABETH SHE DIED AS MARY ELIZABETH UNDERWOOD IN LOUGHBOROUGH.
CAN ANYONE HELP!!!!!

I was trying to make some sense here:

So the Bryant-Streaton mariage was March 1914?
http://www2.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/information.pl?r=130674875&d=bmd_1238714926

The only chap I found in www.cwgc.org mentions only Parents, not wife as next-of-kin?(Infers unmarried)
http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=297652

I can't obviously spot him in 1901/1911 index.
What detail is given on that 1914 marriage regarding age/paternity/occupation and address/witness?

OK, looking around I can see Eliza* tuppen (parents Albert & Fanny), but not for certain after 1891.

I can't see for certain how it would relate to "Grandmother Thomas"?

Any more snippets for us to look at?

Think you have to go back a bit in time and then try coming forward again.
Pauline found the 1914 marriage reference for you.
Bryant-Streaton marirage was March quarter of 1914 ref 2b 344
on
http://www2.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/information.pl?r=130674875&d=bmd_1238714926

Apply for a copy of that certificate and note the names and occupations of the 2 fathers and the witnesses.
Then look for those families back on the 1891-1901-1911 censuses.
From his death entry on the cwgc website, your George was born circa 1885, but there might be a slight variation in his age and he may also have been known by another name as an infant.  The censuses may help in this respect.

The best possible entry in the records for George's parents that I saw was a William Bryant who married a Mary Steel in the Steyning district (includes Hove and Preston) in 1879.  Steyning by the way is one of those really annoying districts that is not fully transcribed onto the Freebmd indexes, so it is possible your George may have been born just outside Brighton rather than in it, and his record is not yet on the Internet.
It may be his family on the 1881 census living at 25 Livingstone Road, Hove.

(Look at both Briants as well as Bryants by the way)

the reason we think there is a link between thomas William Bryant and Elizabeth tuppen is that my aunt always believed she was her grandmother also we have her birth cert and her death and her fathers navy record of what ships he was on. her father was in the navy from 1872 until 1877 then he married fanny blaber.

In the absence of any other leads, then follow up on the M G Bryant witness.

She may be May Gladys Bryant aged 13 in 1911 ( from index). Look at the 'tips' to extract more of the household.
In which case looking at 1901censusoline, she is b Brighton and living Hove in 1901.
