Hi all,
Further to a previous topic I made (http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,271981.0.html) on the baptism of Charles Webb my Great, Great Grandfather b 1833 Catsfield I have made contact with a cousin who had contact with another cousin who had an indentureship for Charles Webb.
This indentureship states that Charles mother was Hannah of Brighton and that Charles was indentured to William Eastwood of Framfield a Wheelwright in 1848 (Charles can be found with William in the 1851 Census).
There is a Hannah Webb in Brighton in both the 1841 and 1851 Census which says she comes from Westfield born about 1813. She is there with another Webb, Phillis who I have a baptism for in 1803 in Westfield to John & Sarah. Charles is found with this family in 1841 Census in Catsfield without his mother.
I have tried to track down Hannah's baptism without success in the Westfield parish registers. Charles states on his marriage cert that his father is Charles, now this could mean then that Hannah was not a Webb but I cannot find a marriage between a Charles & Hannah in the time frame, nor can I find a Charles Webb at all in any census or register!
This is the last bit I need to tie in Charles to the family he is found with in 1841 (hopefully) but am a stuck!
Any help or suggestions appreciated.

I assume you mean 1838 rather 1883 for Charles birth. Do you have his birth certificate? If not that would be your next best step. I'm wondering if Charles was illegitimate and therefore Charles senior is fictitious or maybe his grandfather. What does Hannah give as marital status in 51?

Ack a typo, Charles birth meant to be 1833 so no cert. (ill change the original)
Hannah is single in the census.
Yes, I always had an inkling that Charles senior may be fictitious.

I've just read your other thread and caught up - so at the moment you are missing both Hannah's and Charles' baptisms? Maybe non-conformist?

Hi Sean
I'm not sure if you have access to the SFHG database so have checked that and the only one I could find was baptised 1809 in aldingbourne.
I think I'd check the non conformist records too
