Hmmm. Wouldn't the theory only have fitted if Jane was old enough to be Mary's (it's Mary instead of Margaret now, I believe?) mother? If Mary was married in 1909 then we're probably looking at a girl born ca. 1890?

Jenny - could you clarify whether the name is Mary or Margaret Hutchings on the birth cert you hold? Also, as Osprey was asking, how sure are you that you have the correct Margaret Mahoney birth cert? (Additionally to the Cardiff ones, there are also 2 Margaret Mahoneys registered in Cardiff 1910/1911). When exactly did your Margaret die and what was her name at the time?

Hi Tati,

Jenny said that the cert was in the family, but whether it's an original or has been obtained since is another matter.

Well marriage certificate arrived today of Timothy Mahoney and Mary Kingdom no mention of Hutchings but her father was named as John Kingdom deceased so perhaps her mother had married again She however  got married from the address of 14 Upper Taff Street and Margaret was born in 11 Upper Taff Street To much of a coincidence!
Cant find John Kingdom yet He was a confectioner

there are some directories online here

http://www.historicaldirectories.org/hd/

but couldn't see him in the 1895 directory. You can search using occupation on the 1881 census.

The 1911 census for Wales is due to be going online this summer, so you should get ages and birth places from that if nothing turns up in the meantime.

the 1911 census should give place of birth for Mary so that should help.

Well I thought the 1911 census would solve the the mystery.
Timothy Mahoney was born Merthyr app 1886 I have found his family I believe .
Mary his wife was born  Neath Town 1887.
They married in 1908 and lived in Upper Taff Street Merthyr with Violet born 1908 and Maggie (The Maragret I  started with)1909 I am presuming Mary was Mary Kingdom or Kingdon .
I cant find her previously as a Kingdom or Kingdon or a Hutchings  Her father is John a confectioner
Very stuck .
11 Upper Taff street is on Margaret s birth cert  and Mary was married from 14 Upper Taff Street home of the witnesses George and hannah Cottrell Huh

That sounds like her
Her Father was a confectioner
I found a flour haulier . Is it more than likely that Neath is her place of birth or are we expecting mistakes with 1911 census
