OPR Rosehearty * Complete *
« on: Thursday 12 November 09 08:45 UTC (UK) »

Found an 1852 OPR for Rosehearty that has been compiled with families records spanning some years but all together. I remember reading a post before how parish records had been destroyed for another church and the minister/session went round to redo the records. I was wondering if this was the case here.
My question:- can any one in the area shed any light on this and if this was indeed the case. Thanks Thinlizy

I think you may perhaps have come across some of what are called 'neglected entries'.

When it became known that all the parish registers were to be collected centrally and preserved as a record of births and marriages for civil purposes, large numbers of people realised that their baptisms, or those of their children, had never been recorded in the parish registers. They then made good that omission by having the baptisms recorded retrospectively, and the result is that you often get whole families all listed together.
