Phillis Heasman - Completed
« on: Monday 06 April 09 22:42 UTC (UK) »

Hello,

Phillis Heasman was christened in Barcombe on 14 August 1785. Daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Heasman

I'm looking for any  further mention of her:  marriage, burial or Census.

Thanks  much,

Jann

There is a burial on findmypast which may be her

Phillis Heasman
buried on 10 May 1789
at Barcombe, St Mary, Sussex, England

Notes : poor

I'm a little reluctant to think it is her because normally if a child it would have an age and it says poor in notes but I suppose that could apply to a child.

Hi Kerry,

Thanks for the lookups.  You've done a number of them for me over the past few years and I really appreciate your help.

A death at around age 4 would explain the absence of a marriage or census record.

Would you be kind enough to check the burial index for Phillis's brother John christened June 4, 1775 who, in my notes, I have marked "infant death?" because a in 1780 Henry and Elizabeth named another son John.

Thanks so much

I think at that date the word "poor" meant that the 3d tax on register entries (introduced in the Stamp Act of 1783) was not paid.  So it could well apply to a child.

At least that's what I think - would appreciate any confirmation or otherwise of this.

Thanks for the explanation Stovepipe, I wasn't sure.

This must be Phillis as she doesn't appear to appear later on anywhere.
