Sanford's at Eynesbury
« on: Wednesday 08 April 09 11:45 BST (UK) »

Dear all,

I have been trying to find the marriage record of Thomas and Mary Sanford whom was living at Eynesbury of Huntingdonshire.  Thomas and Mary Sanford had 5 children baptised at Eynesbury from 1789 to 1795. According to their death records, Thomas was born in 1760 and Mary was born in 1765.  Thus, I believe they married sometime between  1780-1789. I have searched marriage records for Bedfordshire, Huntingdonshire and Cambridgeshire without success. Can anybody help? Undecided

thankyou

Darren

Are you sure the name is Sanford? Sawford is a local name.

Welcome to Rootschat

Hunts Marriage Index has no such marriage under San(d)ford or Sawford, although there were three times as many Sanford burials in Hunts than Sawford, so San(d)ford looks to be the more likely.

In 1841 Mary gives her birthplace as Hunts, for what it's worth.

If you're desperate (which you obviously are!) you might consider looking a bit closer at a marriage in Brampton in 1780 between Thomas Sandifer and Mary Tibit, although Mary would have been rather on the young side. And there's a Mary widow who married in 1799, so it may not have been the right couple

The entry for Thomas' burial in Abbotsley states he died from "an apoplectic fit"

Good luck
