Can someone please tell me where it tells you how many PMs you may send?

Dear Dotty,

I have  always assumed (like casalguidi) that there is no limit.

Though we have at times been asked to clear out our PM boxes.

I currently have 1484 incoming messages (I think that's what the number refers to).

Not sure how many 'sent' messages I have.

Perhaps a Moderator or Administrator who knows the answer to both of these questions will give us all a definitive answer?

Cheers,

There used to be problem with only just over a hundred being visible in your message lists.  This meant that if you didn't have the display order set to "most recent first" you wouldn't be able to see the most recent ones.

This is the pop-up I keep getting
PM couldn't be sent to------- due to the max PM limit
I am researching the name Mansell,so decided to send PMs to all the researchers shown on the Surname search board researching that name.I sent three or four yesterday and then the pop up appeared,it allowed me to send  one this morning but since then my request has been declined

Several people with Mansell as their surname interest don't have any posts so you probably will get n error message when trying to contact them by PM.

Hi Dotty,

I would imagine the people you are attempting to send the message to have reached their maximum limit allowed ?

Would these people have less than either three or five posts to their credit .. ?

If this is the case they won't beable to receive anymore PM's until they either delete the ones they already have .. or post at least a couple more replies.

Kind regards,

Pels.

The following is a quote from the RootsChat "Help" pages at:

http://www.rootschat.com/help/pms.php

"In general, there is no limit to the number of PMs you may send or receive,
(although we do hope you will empty your Inbox and Outbox regularly).

New members must make at least three postings before being allowed to use the PM facility.
If you are sending PMs to new members who have less than three posts you will receive an error message, that your limit, or allowed number has been reached. (note that it says your limit, although it actually refers to the recipient.)"

How odd, like JAP I believed the above to be true, I've just received a PM from someone with only two posts ?? I wasn't sure whether it was worth my while replying in case it didn't work, but I did anyway and there wasn't any problem ??

Things must have altered .. ?
