Where are the churches please?
« on: Thursday 09 April 09 09:41 UTC (UK) »

Good morning
I'm still on the case of my Whittaker ancestors and wondered if anyone can help me narrow down what churches they might have attended please?

They were Church of Ireland and so far it seems that they were in Creahagadoos in and before 1857

Does anyone know what church they might have attended, possibly for their marriage and baptisms of their children?

From around 1877 to 1884 they appear to have been in Clonleigh - what church would they possibly have attended there please?

From 1899 to 1933, they were in Sheercloon - again what church might they have attended please?

And in 1941, one died in Cavan - what church might she have attended or been buried in please?

Does anyone know if any of the above churches hold their own bmd records or where they would be held?

Many thanks, still trying!

Isn't it wonderful what a humorous computer program can produce: Chicbeater would have been a much better name than Chichester, his actual name!

Clonleigh registers are on film at PRONI.

Thanks Adrian and Shane for the info.

The Raphoe one Adrian would that be on a sort of corner in Raphoe?  If it is I have actually been in that one, and so it covers Sheercloon and Creaghadoos?
Many thanks
Kind regards

I'm not sure that I understand your question. I was trying to point out that Clonleigh CofI registers (don't know which years) can be seen at PRONI. The parish of Clonleigh includes the townland Sheercloon. Clonleigh is in the Lifford area.

The townland of Creaghadoos is in the parish of Taughboyne, and appears to have held a Chapel of Ease known as Craigadooish. CofI registers are available at PRONI for both Taughboyne and Craigadooish. Taughboyne is in the St Johnston area.

On checking ECatNI, I find that Taughboyne registers in PRONI cover 1796 to 1919; Craigadooish registers cover 1862 to 1907; and Clonleigh registers cover 1788 to 1984.

From ECatNI you cannot discover if cover is continuous and comprehensive.
