Alex Wood Neilands 1881 census
« on: Thursday 09 April 09 14:23 UTC (UK) »

Hello again,
Would be grateful if someone would look up the 1881 (and earlier, if possible), records for Alexander Wood Neilands b.1872 and his family.  Have tried the LDS site, but have not been able to find them in the census - though there is an Alexander Wood Neilands in the IGI - don't know how accurate that is.
Many thanks,
Frosty

Hi Frosty,

Just checked your other thread to see that in 1901 census he was born Danbes?? (so probably Dunbar) Haddingtonshire

Do you have 1891 for him?

1881 census: ED 4   Household schedule number    44
15 Writters Court, Dunbar
Alexander Neilands   64 head  Moulder out of employment b.Haddington
Agness Neilands    38   dau   Ag Labr    b. Dunbar
Alexander Wood    17 grandson  Van Driver b. Dunbar
John Wood            15         "      Engineer Fitters Apprentice   b. Dunbar
James Neilands    75 brother    Baker     b. Haddington
James M Doughty    7   boarder  Scholar   b. Dunbar

edit, wrong d.o.b. for Alexander, will look again!

Thank you so much, Ecneps!  This site is fantastic!
This must be Alexander with his grandparents.
I don't have the 1891 census, or any of the earlier ones either.  Thought I was more likely to find AW Neilands' parents in the 1881 one.  Any further info would be most gratefully received!
Best regards,
Frosty

- can't think that there was another Alexander Wood Neilands, so maybe he lied about his age in the 1901 census?

Well,  after looking again I wasn't sure as the date of birth is quite a bit out (but as I can't see the actual image I don't know if the 1901 date given on your other thread is right either, 29 on that but 17 on this one, should be 7-9!!)

I've found Alex senior with his daughter Agnes in 1891 but still looking for grandson Alexander  ... that can't be the right family

Do you not have Alexander and Mary's marriage cert giving his father's name, it really would be worth having a look on scotlandspeople for that, and for the census images, much better than the transcripts, obviously.

Not found in 1881 yet, so the above would help

Thanks for your help, Barbara,
Will do some further searching.  Do you have access to the 1861 census?  That may at least link John Neilands as a son of Alexander senior.
Best regards

Hi Frosty,
I have only just discovered your message about Alex Woods Neilands that you posted in April. I am amazed to find someone who belongs to the same family as me, after years of searching. John Hay McKenzie Neilands was one of my great, great grandfather's.

Be pleased to hear from you,
Best regards
