Mary RIX born Boston Lincolnshire

I am trying to find birth and marriage details for Mary RIX born 1796ish  in Boston, Lincolnshire (according to 1851 Suffolk census) married to Francis Bidden ALLISON supposedly of Norfolk.  They seem to have had at least 2 of their children in Lowestoft, Suffolk.

In the 1841 census Mary ALLISON's age is 48 and 55 in 1851!

In the 1841 census, ages up to 15 are recorded exactly but ages over 15 were rounded down to the nearest 5 years. So, a person aged 53 would be listed on the census as age 50 years. Someone aged 79 would be recorded as 75 years.

However, in some areas ages were not rounded down when they should have been and this appears to be the case here. It was simply a misunderstanding of the instruction by the Enumerators.

There is also the possibility the 'rounding down' practice was carried onto the 1851 census (when it shouldn't have been) and so Mary RIX should have been listed as 58 - it would make more sense. This would give her birth year c1793.

I seem to remember another Mary Rix of Boston thread recently. Why not try a search of the site? Would do it for you, but if you tailor your search you are more likely to find what you are looking for.

Thanks - that does make it clearer.  Still haven't found a birth for Mary RIX in Lincolnshire.
