Edited my last post while you were posting:

There is an ancestry tree which gives Isabellas maiden name as Sandburn and suggests Charles was Charles George, with parents (George) Davidson Hislop and mother (Louisa) Amelia.

But looking at it more closely it is a 'bit' of a mess....one of George's sons is listed as 'living'...LOL

There is absolutely nothing in the OP Registers for Charles and Isabella, marriage or children. One way of finding out Isabella's surname would be to try and track one of the children showing in the 1841 census in the household through to death to see whether mother's maiden name was included.

There is an Agnes Pettigrew who has her sisters Isabella and Elizabeth living with her.  Ages are pretty much correct.

What do you reckon?

Can't figure out all the connections as yet but let's see if I can explain how I got there  Grin

Andrew Hislop shows as born in Kirkfieldbank in the 1851 census. On checking the parish for this it turns out it is in Lesmahagow which took me back to that entry you found in 1861 with a number of Hislop sisters staying with sister Agnes now Pettigrew and her family. My earlier post on this when I said we had the family born in Glasgow was nonsense  Tongue

So just to bring it together, this is the entry we had for 1841:

Charles Hislope 60, HML (hand loom weaver normally)
Isabella Hislope 60
Jane Hislope 28
James Hislope 26
Janet Hislope 24
Agnes Hislope 22
Isabella Hislope 20
Elizabeth Hislope 17
Charles Hislope 11
Isabella Hislope 2

Address: New Lanark New Buildings, Lanark, Lanarkshire

And this is the 1851 census entry for Agnes Hislop now Pettigrew with sisters staying with her:

John Pettigrew 31, Grocer's Shopman , b. Lanark
Agnes Pettigrew 31, b. Lesmahagow, Lanark
John Pettigrew 9
Charles Pettigrew 7
Helen Pettigrew 4
Isabella Pettigrew 10 Months
Isabella Hislop 27, sister in law, Cotton Reeler,  b. Lesmahagow, Lanark
Elizabeth Hislop 24, sister in law, Cotton Reeler,  b. Lesmahagow, Lanark

Address: 46 Brasfield Row, New Lanark

No idea who the Agnes Hislop showing in  1861 could be as we know that Andrew's wife Agnes Watson was deceased by then. Agnes Hislop Pettigrew died in 1895, aged 78. Death reported by her husband John. Parents show as Charles Hislop, handloom weaver and mother as Isabella Mitchell.

And living next door to Agnes in 1851, perhaps the sister Jane who shows in 1841 and maybe Isabella, age 2, was Jane's daughter:

Samuel Twaddle 39, agr. lab., b. Lanark
Jane Twaddle 36, b. Lesmahagow, Lanark
Isabella Hislop 12, step daughter b. Lanark
Margaret Hislop 9, step daughter b. Lanark

Still altogether along with Agnes Hislop b 1807, who I assume is widow of Andrew who died 1858.. Grin
