Does anyone have any information in the Binch Family of Mansfield Notts. Thomas was a clockmaker in the early 1700s He married Lydia Oldfield in 1710 and later as a widower of 62years he married Elizabeth Timmons. I am trying to find out if Thomas and Lydia had any children and was one of them James, born about 1716
Any information on this Binch family would be most welcome

Hi Carol and Oly
Thanks for your information. I did know about the marriage of Thomas and Elizabeth, and about the marriage of Thomas to Lydia Oldfield in April 1710.
I was in Mansfield last week and went to the Nottingham Archives but only had time to look through a few of the registers, picking up the burial of Thomas Binch Sen. aged 82, 9th Aug 1740 and also a Lydia Oldfield, widow aged 87. 15 Jan 1738. She could perhaps be the mother of Lydia Binch?
I am really grateful for the other burials ie Lydia Binch,1743. Thomas Binch 1769, and Elizabeth Binch ( nee Timmons, Thomas's second wife) 1774, as all these dates seem to fit in.
Now I am back home in Liverpool I think I will ask Nottingham Archives to do a search of grave records as I now have some dates and also Mansfield St Peter's baptisms to see if there are any children of Thomas and Lydia. I might then find my elusive James.
Again many thanks to Carol and Oly

Hi Margaret
Mansfield St Peters baptisms are covered on the Notts FHS CD, but I can't see any children.
Sorry

Hi Carol
Thanks for your observations, a bit disappointing. I have a document from Kew which is 'A petition from Thomas Binch, asking for the release of his son James from the Queens Own Royal Regiment of Dragoons. The said Thomas Binch and his family suffers very mush for want of his assistance to help to maintain them' so this would seem to imply that James had younger siblings.
Do you know if Nottinghamshire Archives hold any records for the early schools in Mansfield as I understand there was a St Peters School from 1567 and I think two another schools called Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School and Faith Clarkson's School which were in being in the early 1700's and there may have been others.
Very grateful for your help.
Margaret

Hi Margaret
Sorry I'm not sure. You will need to speak to someone at the Records Office.
Good luck Carol
