Archbald Ferguson born Kippen
« on: Thursday 09 April 09 21:26 UTC (UK) »

I'm needing some help with the person above. Archbald Ferguson born 02/10/1842 in Kippen, Stirlingshire. It lists his parents as being Malcolm Ferguson, Labourer and Mary Ferguson. There is a handwritten message alongside the entry that says the following:- The Mother being sponsor. The Father under scandal.
I'm just looking for help in what that handwritten message means and maybe where I could go next for information, as I'm working on the tree for a friend.
yours

John Ferguson born 1775 Kilmorack, near Beauly married Agnes McGrigor or McGregor who was born Kippen in 1779.
They had a Son called Malcolm Ferguson born 1805 in the Barony area of Glasgow.

Malcolm Ferguson was a labourer who married Mary McMillan. Mary McMillan was born 5 Apr 1813 in Gorbals, Glasgow. Marriage took place in Dec 1838 in Gorbals, Glasgow.
They had two Sons.
Peter Ferguson born 2nd May 1840 in Barony Glasgow.

Went to the archives in Stirling yesterday. But there was nothing mentioned in the local Kippen Parish church records for 1842 or the name Ferguson between 1810 and 1870. So we have drawn a blank. Any ideas on where we can look next? I would have expected a mention in the church records if anything had happened in the Parish. Not sure if there were any court records around then. It's just so that we can make sure we are tracing the right family and then move onto the next generation backwards. Malcolm's parents would be John Ferguson born 1775 Kilmorack near Beauly, Inverness-shire and Agnes McGrigor born 1779 Kippen.
