If the MC draws a blank my only option left is the marriage for a Mary Harding in Truro that Deb from the USA mentioned.

If that's a non-starter then I'll just have to keep looking and posting requests on every FH website I can find.

Or alternatively, working on the old Sherlock Homes philosophy that once you've eliminated all the possibilites whatever is left, no matter how improbable it seems, must be the answer. Or more likely just assume for now that they weren't married! Tut tut! Unless you know of a source that I don't?

Ok Fizzy you may now take a Courtesy  Embarrassed

Joseph and Mary were married in the Parish Church at Stoke Damerel under the name of "Sanals" on 13 Dec 1840.

Their first child was born May 1841, me thinks a shotgun may have been involved here and that's most probably why it wasn't in Morval!

Thanks for all your help. hope to speak to you again soon.

I've been working on Joseph's Grandparents all afternoon, boy am I frustrated! Looks like Benjamin and Ann but can't be sure. Mum and dad were John and Sarah which I'm sure I'm 99% correct on!

Ok here goes, good luck!

Joseph was their last child born Around October 1819 in or near Duloe, his father was John Sambells (from wedding certificate) born around 1778 in or near St Germans. He married a Sarah a Sarah Barrett in 1805 in Duloe Church, Sarah was born around 1787 in or near St Keyne. They both feature in the 1841 census with older brother Benjamin, John dies in 1844 and Sarah goes to live with Joseph in Plashford and appears on the 1851 census (hence the 99% sure).

Now it starts to get difficult, If it's the John from St Germans as there isn't one around St Keyne, Duloe or Morval that fits the bill, then his parents would be Benjamin and Ann (Stephens) but I can't find any references to confirm this. However, all the childrens names especially Benjamin feature in the next two generations!?!?!?

I'm currently using the usual suspects COPC and the IGI.

How do you know that John Sambells came from St Germans. Duloe, St Keyne or Morval just out of interest. Is that where the Sambells name is concentrated ?

Joseph, his mother, brothers and sisters were all born in that area however, I can't find any references to John his father, the 1841 census just says Cornwall although they are living in that area and John is burried in St Keyne, I've seen the grave!

Sambles/Sambells is a Cornish name through and through going as far back as records go.

Ok what about John born 1777 Landulph (a stone's throw from St G) . He also has a father Benjamin. Have you discounted him and why ?

Fizzy,

That's the one I've put in my tree but, I can't find anyway to confirm it.

It sounded the most logical to me (I had to use Google Maps to find out where it was though!)

This is where the confusion starts, I found one for Duloe in 1805 and one for Landulph in 1797 but, the first child that I can find for Benjamin and Ann is Thomas born 1805! I couldn't see them being childless for 8 years so I went for the 1805 Duloe option.  Huh Undecided Huh

OK

Benjamin Sambell married Ann Stephens Morval 1772
Banns also read in St Germans 1772

1774 Ann
1776 Benjamin
1778 John
1781 Mary
1785 Betty
1783 Ursula
1789 Rebecca

All St Germans

Then
1792 Benjamin
1795 Joseph

Morval

Would fit too

Then 1797 Landulph Benjamin Sambles m Ann Martin Landulph . This could have been Benjamin as a widower (or not?)
