So Ben and Ann had 3 sons - John Joseph and Benjamin - the three names that John uses for his children born Duloe plus Dad is Benjamin.

Those are the ones.

Looking at it logically, they were all Agricultural Labourers so the work was quite transient, but I can't understand why they would be married in Morval when they were born and lived in the St Germans area unless, the family trait of being "Knocked-Up" before you were married came into play again!!!!!

They married in Morval but the banns were read in St germans as well. That suggests to me that Ann Stephens came from Morval at the point of marriage and Ben was living in St germans. the families may have known each other of old before the Stephens moved to Morval maybe.

Benjamin Sambells married Elizabeth Pine 1771 Landulph

1772 Elizabeth
1774 Benjamin
1777 John
1779 matthew
1781 William

I would definitely lean to the John of St Germans as it all seems a better fit.

Also St Germans was a town but also a huge district which stretched almost to Looe Duloe Morval etc.

Good point however, as they appear to have moved to Morval in the late 1700's and had children there and John was married a mile or two away, I'm inclined to stick with the 1778 John for now.

It looks like Ben had a brother John as there seems to be a number of Sambells with a Father John and mother Ann in St G at the same time.

You can see why I'm having a problem confirming this line!!!!!!!

That line was in answer to your comment about why did Ben and Ann live in St Germans and marry in Morval not in answer to the Landulph info.

I know, lets calm down and start afreash.

Everywhere you find a Ben you'll also find a John but not always a Joseph and rarely a Thomas before 1850. I can't tell you where as I've looked at so many today and it's hot and I need a beer! Cool

I'm looking at the 1778 St Germans John with the 1776 St Germans Ben with the 1747 Landulph Ben father and 1750ish Ann, as opposed to the 1777 Landulph John etc, etc, etc.........Phew!

They all appear to come from the same area which is damn confusing and driving me up the wall  Lips Sealed

Now I favour the Maker or St Stephens one as I thought the Ben 1747 Landulph would have been the one who married Elizabeth Pine in 1771.


This is where it is so helpful when they are given second names.
