Tracing ancestors in Tyrone
« on: Friday 10 April 09 11:14 BST (UK) »

Hello,

I've recently learnt that my ancestors were probably from Co. Tyrone before emigrating to Scotland in the late 1820s. I had a quick look at some of the records available but didn't seem to find anything relevant.
I was wondering how feasible it would be to trace them in Ireland, and how one would go about it without knowing the specific parish from which they originate.

Cheers,

hi, depending on the date they came to scotland and if they had children there, on the childs birth certificate it usualy ( again depending on date) states were the parents married, sometimes it just gives the date and county in Ireland on others it might give townlands and county, On my own personal experiences I have found out a lot from looking at the registrations on scotlands people, it does cost, ( £6 for 30 credits) also on a death cerificate you would find parents names, so if they came to scotland and died after 1855 their deaths would be recorded. Seems a bit  early for any births to be recorded. Have you tried the familysearch site it's worth having a look.

best regards
