Hi Geoff Smiley

Can you spot Nanny G Lanyon anywhere? I thought I had her as Nanny/Ann Wall in 1891 and 1881 in Wales but cannot find a marriage to confirm.

I am also missing Thomas Warrin/Warren in 1891as well as Mary Bolton nee Lanyon (possibly formerly Warrin) in 1891 and her marriage.

Hi Deb,
There is a marriage of Charles Ellis March 1864 Penzance 5c 571.
But no corresponding Nanny Lanyon.

Then on 1881 there is Charles Ellis and Nanny Ellis plus children living in St Just.
He is a copper miner. Childrens age would correspond to above marriage.

Will look again later but have to go out.

To Geoff and Deb
Many thanks for all your efforts on this family - I can't believe that you found so much for me. You are so kind! I think in future I have to look 'outside the box' more because of all the odd spellings of names and places. I guess it comes with experience! Maybe one day I will be able to help someone else.

Hi Geoff ... I think nanny was still living with her mum, Avis in 1871. So I am thinking her marriage would be after that.  Undecided

tigtig ...so glad we could be of help ...Nanny is the one who remains elusive at the moment.

Hi again

Long shot here ...Nanny could be interchangeable with the name Ann.

I found this marriage

ANN LANION to either Timothy McCarthy or William EDWARDS
Mar q 1876
Merthyr Tydfil Breconshire, Glamorgan, Mid Glamorgan
11a   529

then in 1881
Glam, Gelligaer
2 Arch st
William EDWARDS head mar 35 fruiterer b Glam, Gelligaer
ANN wife mar 34 b CORNWALL, ST JUST
Stephen son 3 b Gelligaer

In 1891 they are still in Gelligaer, William is 47 and a fruit and fish dealer. Ann still b Cornwall aged 44
children:
Stephen 13 locomotive cleaner
Elizabeth A 12
William J 9
David E? 7
Albert 3
Edith 1

1901 still in Gelligaer
William now 56 and  general dealer in fish and green grocer
ANN 52 b Cornwall ST JUST
Lizzie A 22 servanr
William J 19 colliery below ground haulier
David O 17  ditto
Berty 13 Colliery below ground, door boy
Edith 11
Fredy 9 son
Eliza A dau 2 b ditto

what do you think? I think only the marraige cert may confirm Ann's father's name and occupation to see if she fits.

Thanks once again. It will take me a while to sort all this information but now I can send for some more certificates to establish that these are members of my family. It looks like they all moved from St Just to south Wales (where there was plenty of work in mining,I guess) so I shall concentrate my efforts there.  Smiley

Glad we can help  Cheesy

I checked for an ANN LANYON/LANION bc 1838/39 in St Just in prior censuses and was unable to find one ... I am really hoping that Ann LANION turns out to be NANNY LANYON  Grin

Please keep us updated when you receive the certs !

Looks a possibility Deb, but only the certificate will confirm. She certainly was elusive.
Good luck Tigtig.
