Hi

WWW
Hannah Miller (married name) unknown nee Maryboro 1854
« on: Sunday 08 November 09 14:30 UTC (UK) »

Hi,
I am looking any information out there on Hannah (a.k.a. Ann) Miller unknown maiden name.
She married James Miller of Monaghan sometime around 1872ish who was in the army and possibly stationed at the Curragh or Dublin.
On a UK census of 1891 Hannah/Ann lists her place of birth as Maryboro which is now Portlaoise in Laois.  On the 1881 census her age is 27 which would make her year of birth as 1854.
Thank you for any info in advance
Paul

See my reply on other thread.  I don't know her surname so I have to find their marriage cert first.  My most likely source for success will be the UK National Archive for army records WO97.  That is not searchable online, I have to visit Kew In London.
I wanted to see if anyone here has already encountered Hannah Miller nee unknown.
Thanks

Oh yeah and IFHF doesn't have Laois available either.

Hannah and James had a son called John Henry Miller born in the Curragh in approx 1878/9.  I have just done a search and come up with this:

DoB - 15/09/1878
Parish - CURRAGH
Father - James Miller, Private in the 14th Regt
Mother - Honoria Crow

What would you guess be at Hannah/Ann being actually called Honoria?

Everything else adds up!

IGI (www.familysearch.org) list John Henry Miller born 29 Aug.1878 Co. Kildare, son of James Miller & Hannah Crowe.
Suspect that the record you've found is a baptismal records (dated 15 Sept.1878 which is a few weeks after extracted birth record on IGI).

Wow.  You are obviously more accomplished at this than me.

I looked on IFHF and they only have one record for a John Henry Miller in 1878 for the whole of Ireland and it has denomination 'Roman Catholic' so you are right it is the baptismal record.

Brilliant.

Apparently on another site they say that Hannah is a nickname of Honoria and Honora.

Hannah is also used for Johanna. Nora and Norah are shortened forms of Hanora.
