Hi Gogan,

I actually have Mary on my tree as McMeikan but I do remember going through so many different ways to spell it when I looked at this family. I'm sure I found 5/6 different spellings for her.

Children I have are

Annie b 1824 d 4/2/1907
John  b  19/8/1825 Kirkcolm  d bfr 1831
Janet b 12/11/1826 Kirkcolm
Mary b 13/8/1828 Kirkcolm
John  c 8/5/1931  Kirkcolm    m Jane McCulloch
James c 28/10/1834 Kirkcolm   poss m Barbara McCulloch 25/3/1855
Elizabeth abt 1838

All these children except the first John and Annie are with John and Mary in the 1841 census

My Line

John Broll/Janet Stewart
Andrew Hall/Sarah Broll/Brawl (sister) to your John
Frances Anne Hall/William Burn
Sarah Hall Burn/John Roxburgh
Frances Hall Roxburgh/Thomas Borthwick
Robert Hastie/Isabella Borthwick
Mum and Dad
Me

I see we are on the same generation we both have
John Broll/Janet Stewart as 5g grandparents, I quickly put your line into my tree and it tells me we are 6th cousins Shocked

Is your line still in Scotland? I've had no luck at all finding any Brolls. I think I did note that there was an Ian Broll Undertaker in Wigtownshire and I'm positive they will be related. I always meant to write. I really want to find out about the origins of the name, is it Irish. I also looked at Browell in Northumberland but couldn't come up with anything.

Do you have any ideas on this???

Terry

Some of my relations still live in Scotland but my Grandad (John Kelly Broll) moved to Newcastle to work so my immediate family all live in and around Newcastle now.

There is an Ian Broll still in Wigtownshire, he deals with any funerals we have up there. I think he is my Dads cousin or something. I'm meeting with my Dad tomorrow to go through the family tree and sort out all the information we both have and get everything recorded. I'll let you know once it's done.

I'm not sure on the origins of the name because when I search the internet there are Brolls coming from Austria into the UK but this is after the 1800's. I think there is some confusion around the surname as I've heard the name was originally Brall, Brolls, Bowells. Trying to trace further back than I have already is proving quite difficult as I'm sure you can imagine.

Hi Cogan83

Thought you might like to see a photo of Frances Anne Hall daughter of Andrew Hall and Sarah Broll b 22/4/1824 Inch Wigtownshire. She was a niece to your John and Mary McMeckan and therefore your 1st cousin 5 times removed and my 3g grandmother.

I have photos of some of Frances's children and grandchildren and also her husband

I'll remove this once you have seen it so that it is not taking up space on the board.

Hi t'bob

I did see your message last night just as I was shutting down. Luckily I noted your email address as I guessed the mods would remove it. I will try and get time to email you later this evening, if not I'll definately get one off to you tomorrow.
