born in Wigtownshire about 1850 and immigrated to Canada in 1882.
Possibly with his sister Janet.
served with the Highlander regiment
Parent might be  Elizabeth Andrews and Alexander Neilson
looking for any information and living relatives

do you have the 1851 census entry for him and the 1861 entry where he is transcribed as nelson both censuses with his parents and siblings
also the 1871,1881 census entry for his parents

Thankyou, I know my Alexander Todd came to Canada in 1882
that he served with the 72nd regiment Seaforth Highlanders from 1868 - 1881
served in Afganistan was in 1878.
Do you know how I could get military records?

i do not really know with regard to his military record
i suppose you could post on the armed forces pages
or you could get in touch with his regt
i know they have military records at kew but i do not know if that includes scottish regts i suspect it would do though
i think the best bet though would be to start another post on the armed forces pages
i am sure they would be able to help you;
