I did annother search for you and the following came up

Devine Hugh  Aghawee  Clonleigh Donegal

Devine James  Drumara  Clonleigh  Donegal

Devine Margaret Cloghfin  Clonleigh Donegal

I think these people are related as they have the same christian names as the ones you mentioned and the irish naming pattern is they usually call their first sons after their father so Francis's father is most probable Hugh as he called his
son Hugh and annother family name you mentioned was James and Margaret

Good Luck on Your search

Kind regards Jane Wink Wink Wink

Thanks again Jane

I also got the Aghawee connection yesterday with your help.

I noticed you have Craigneuk, Wishaw and Motherwell areas ~ My Devines settled in Cleland.

Will keep following up these leads.

Hi Jane

I have only one cousin living in Cleland. Most of the family moved to Shotts and Newmains areas.

I will let you know of any progress.

Did you manage to trace your family back to Ireland?

Hi Jane

I have just looked at your site it is really great.  Love the photos and videos, you really have been busy.

The Devines were first recorded in Cleland in the 1891 census.  This was my great grandfather Hugh Devine who was married to a Jane Gemmell.  My great grandfather died in Cleland in 1936.

Will be working on the Donegal side at the week-end. I will let you know how I get on.

Regards

Bernard and Marjory had a son John 1855.  If you do a parent search on IGI, more children appear.  The 1855 cert. should tell where both parents were born, hopefully not just Ireland.

Hi  Tootsie

It tells me Bernard came from Donegal on Johns birth cert and Marjory from  Ireland. Marjorys father was Charles Devine (farmer)

Have you followed Edward Devine on census, perhaps even death cert?  Census might give a more detailed place of birth(or his wife and children) . The death cert. may give his wife's surname therefore another name to work with.

Have you looked at Ann 1861 birth for place of parents marriage?
