The wife's G-grandmother on her 90th birthday
|
According to the 1871 census, Sarah Lynn was born in Nottingham about 1836.
She married Joseph Whitehead Birkett in 1859, in Stockport, Cheshire. They are shown as living in Stockport in 1871.
Sarah dies between 1871 and 1881, as Joseph is shown as a widower.
So, where was Sarah in 1841 and 1851 and who are her parents/family?
Any suggestions will be very much appreciated.
Bob.

Hi
The only relevant baptism shown is:
Sarah Ann Lyne to James and Mary Ann 7.4.1834 Newark St Mary Occ Writer
Ref: NFHS Baptism CD
It may be a red herring so beware.
Regards
Jane

Have you actually got the marriage cert - that will confirm if Lynn is her maiden name or a previous married name Also will give her fathers name and occupation, which will help pinpoint her family when she was a child.

No, I don't have her marriage certificate, I'm doing this particular family history for a friend.
I hadn't thought of a previous marriage, my gut feeling is that it's unlikely, as she is only 23 when she marries Joseph Birkett. I'm probably wrong as usual, so I think I'll have to invest in the certificate.
Thanks for the suggestion, lizdb.
Jane, thanks for the info, I'm used to red herrings, as I've had enough of them tracing my own family.

I've updated my profile ......
|
good advice - spent ages looking for my G2Grandmother - a Hannah Gowenlock, who married a Turner in Carlisle .... on the 1881 census she was born 1852, marrying Mr T in the early 1870s ..... just couldnt find her in 1871 or 1861.
Finally bought the marriage Cert and she was a widow - maiden name Kew ..... they did marry young at times

Well, I think I've found her in the 1851 census and from there, on the IGI:-
Sarah Lynn b 12/11/1835 Nottingham, christened 15/1/1836
Father Andrew Lynn (b Northumberland), Mother Sarah Billington (b Cheshire).
In the 1851 census, she and her family are in Yorkshire, although her dad has married his third wife by then!!!
Thanks for the suggestions.
Bob.
