FOSTER Family at North Marston
« on: Wednesday 15 April 09 13:17 UTC (UK) »

I am trying to find out if Thomas Foster bapt.North Marston 1765,moved away from the area,or if he wed or was buried there. My 5 x great grand father was a Thomas Foster who wed at Alconbury Hunts.in 1792 on 1841 census he is down as not born Hunts.and his age, both on there and his death certificate in 1845,gives a bith of 1765

I've got a CD of North Marston PRs (Bucks FHS). I can't find a burial for the Thomas baptised in 1765 so it looks as though he survived infancy. Neither can I find a marriage for him in North Marston - which isn't unusual as marriages usually take place in the bride's parish - but, more telling, I can't find any baptisms for children of a Thomas Foster either.

I suppose it's possible he moved away to Alconbury, but it's a good 40 miles away. Do you have any reason to suppose this could be your Thomas Foster, other than the baptism/birthdate?

The parents of the North Marston Thomas were Jonathan & Sarah. Don't suppose your Thomas named any of his children after them?

The reason i think he might be the same man,is the Thomas at Marston had sisters Hannah,Rose and Sarah, the later two twins and a brother George,my Thomas had daughters Hannah,Rose and Sarah plus he had twins Joseph and Mary, also there are two other Fosters having children bapt.at Alconbury,William and John and one had grand daughter Rose, also the Fosters who appear to have lived at Alconbury for some time have mainly different christian names,Robert occurs several times, but never in the other threes descendants

Hi tricky tree,

I see what you mean. Rose certainly doesn't seem to have been a very common name at the time.

It seems like a good bet. I have Jonathan & Sarah having the following children baptised in N Marston:

John 18.3.1764 (buried 6.7.1768 'infant')
Thomas 14.10.1765
Hannah 17.1.1768
Rose & Sarah 27.2.1770
Olive 3.7.1774
John 18.2.1776
George 3.6.1783.

I don't suppose you've come across an Elizabeth Foster in roughly this area? She'd have been baptised about 1745 - married 1770 in Watlington & Pyrton, Oxon. I've been looking for her for a while now!!

The fact that Rose wasn`t a very common name, was what made me think he might be the same man,and with no marriages etc. on the i.g.i for the other siblings,i wonder if the family moved away from the area.Sorry,my family moved from Hunts.to Cambs.then to Nottingham,so iv`e not really looked at that area,i`ll make a note though and keep an eye out for her

Unfortunately, it looks as if this Elizabeth Foster married in North Marston in 1767.  Sad

Thanks for looking - much appreciated.
