Hi Kenjo
Just doing some housekeeping on the Surrey boards and going through the oldest posts. Now there are further resources available it gives a chance for old posts to be looked at again to see if the information can be found or the chance for posters to say whether this information has been answered and this topic can be completed. If it can be completed please put completed into the title of this topic and it can be moved to Surrey completed (it is never lost off Rootschat) giving more space for other topics to be looked at again by all of us to see if we can help. If you are still looking for the information perhaps you can now add further details to help others search again for you.

What information does the 1911 census give you about the couple living in Kent at the time of the census? Where were they born?

Hi Ya Valda, I think I was one of the first who bought 1911census, but really no joy. Nina claims to be born in Aldershot, but, from previous research there wasn't anyone suitable. I will get back to this and possibly there will be a baby born that just might fit, maybe she will have a different surname. regards, Jo

Hi Jo
The Barretts
1891 census RG12 434 folio 20 100 Meyrick Road Battersea Alfred Barrett 43 Head Married Carpenter London Mary L? Barrett 40 Wife Married Spotland Edington Fank Barrett 18 Son Butcher Aldershot Hampshire Thomas Barrett 15 Son Candle packer London Mary Jane Barrett 11 Daughter London William Barrett 9 Son Battersea Surrey James Barrett 7 Son Battersea Surrey Augustus Barrett 5 Son Battersea Surrey
1881 census RG11 639 folio 62 37 Simpson Street Battersea Alfred Barrett 33 Head Married Carpenter Kensington Middlesex Mary Jane Barrett 22 Wife Married Edinburgh Scotland John A. Barrett 10 Son Edinburgh Scotland L. James Barrett 8 Son Aldershot Hampshire Thomas Barrett 4 Son City Middlesex Mary Jane Barrett 1 Daughter City Middlesex
The Barrett family were still in Battersea on the 1901 census but James was not with them possibly because he had already enlisted.
This family might be a possibility for Nina.
1891 census RG12 559 folio 75 17 Springfield Terrace Stoke Guildford Surrey Joseph Williams 39 Head Married Brewer's labourer Dublin Ireland Jane Williams 43 Wife Married Cannore India Ann Williams 14 Daughter Dressmaker Aldershot Hants Jane Williams &7 Daughter County Cork Ireland
1901 census RG13 38 31 Falcon Road Stoke within Guildford Surrey Joseph Williams 51 head Married General labourer Cardiff Wales Jane Williams 50 Wife Married Dublin Ireland Annie Hodson 24 Daughter Married Cannanera India British Subject Jane Williams 17 Daughter Aldershot Hants
Elder daughter Ann Williams marriage
Marriages Mar 1901 HODSON Ernest Spencer Guildford 2a 108 WILLIAMS Annie Bedford Guildford 2a 108
On the 1911 census Ernest Spencer Hodson was in the military in the Guildford area. Jane his wife was also living in the Guildford area with their three children
Births Dec 1910 HODSON Emily M G Guildford 2a 91
Frederick William Hodson aged 4 and not born in the Guildford area.
And their eldest child
Births Mar 1902 Hodson Annie Nina Guildford 2a 92
Named perhaps for her mother and aunt.
There was a Jane Williams birth registered at the right time for an Aldershot birth in 1883. Nina could have been her pet name to distinguish her from her mother also called Jane.
Births Sep 1883 WILLIAMS Jane Farnham 2a 112
It might be worth trying to find Joseph on the 1911 census if he is still alive, to see what his occupation was. Or alternatively obtain his death certificate if this is it.
Deaths Jun 1904 Williams Joseph 55 Guildford 2a 68
Who were the witnesses on Nina and James' marriage?
Regards
Valda

Dear Valda, Thankyou so much for your efforts, I am struggling at the moment to get to this, please forgive my late reply. I did read this the other day and thought I would be able to get to it within the day. I am not ungrateful, but this deserves my undivided attention. Give me a few days to get back and really digest your work. I have to contact the lady concerned about the certificate. Sorry for the delay. kindest regards, JO

Hi Valda, Firstly, could you move this back to the other board. I have been in contact with Gwen, (the granddaughter of Nina) and she looked at the Marriage certificate and you are definetly onto something, or you have found her!
The witnesses were Ernest Hodson, Alice Perry & Thomas Stewart Barrett.
Thankyou and I will get back. Jo
