I am writing a book about the Wileman family in Measham, mainly the decendants of John and Elizabeth both born 1815
I have come to a bit of a stand still with there son John Wileman born c 1845 Measham
in 1851 i have him living in Measham with his grandfather Thomas and mother Elizabeth in 1861 he is living with his sister Mary Wileman as a tailors aprentice in 1871 he has illuded me , the only possible is him married to Ruth Wileman however John Wileman was a fairly common name in Measham
i have seen possibles in later census records but i don't want to write about him and put incorrect text in.
would someone be so kind as to take up my case and just see if you can help me with John
many thanks
Jason

Hello Jason
For 1871, the John married to Ruth could be doubtful on 2 counts:
His age is 36 therefore born c1835 but “your” John was born c1845.
In 1861 John and Ruth are living with their daughter Rosannah in Church Gresley whereas you have already located John in 1861 living with his sister.
Have you considered the John living in Measham in 1881 with wife Catherine. He is shown to have been born in Measham, Derbyshire and his age is 35 indicating that he was born c1845. (Not yet found in 1871!).
Possible marriage:
Marriages 1Q 1874 Ashby Z. Vol. 7a Page 171 Argill, Catherine Burton, John Finch, Mary Wileman, John
I hope that the above is of some help to you.
Ivan

Hi Ivan
That is the John i thought of
John Wileman - Catherine Argill had several children , 2 of there grandkids were killed in ww1, i just need to make sure this is the son of john though as i would be so disapointed if it was not, i could not see any obvious deaths for John.
I did email the Leicestershire Archives as Measham is now in Leicestershire, i asked them if they could locate a marriage in measham for that year but to no avail , they did not marry in Measham
Many thanks
Jason

Hello Jason
Per Free BMD Measham was in the Ashby Z. Registration District so the marriage record I gave is a "possible". (Although Ashby Z. has been linked by FreeBMD to Ashby de la Zouch it is not strictly an alternative name for this district)

It might be worth getting the marriage certificate from the GRO and limiting possible abortive cost by doing a qualified search by stipulating the groom's father's name.

In Ashby de la Zouch Registration District there is a household in 1911 comprising Catherine Wileman age 61 born at Newbold and John Wileman age 65 born Measham. Their marriage seems to be c1874.

If you get the marriage certificate from GRO that should provide some of the evidence you need (or conversely it could show that John wasn't the son of John Wileman Snr.!)
