William MARNANE married Mary BREEN
« on: Wednesday 15 April 09 16:23 UTC (UK) »

William MARNANE  b. 20 Nov 1875  Kilmore  d. 26 Apr 1948 Qld., Aust
- parents William MARNANME / MURNANE & Mary BREEN

I can't find the marriage of William's parents or when they arrived in Queensland. A sibling Bridget was born in Queensland in 1888. And a sibling Mathew was born I think in Clonmel in 1886. If that is St Mary's District then it should be Waterford??

To start with, IGI shows 6 children for William Murnane and Mary Breen: Michael (1867), Emy (1870), James (1872), Ellen (1874), William (1875), Thomas John (1879). See www.familysearch.org for details (the 6 births appear doing parent search).

Index to Irish civil registrations has the marriage listed:
William Murnane- marriage- 1867 Cashel registration district volume 3 page 568
Mary Breen- marriage- same as above.
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=collectionDetails;t=searchable;c=1408347

These details are enough to order the certificate.

Hello aghadowey,

Thank you very much for the marriage. The pilot site still won't load so I'm convinced it is being blocked somewhere, somehow.  I'm trying to narrow down the period to search for the arrival of the family in Australia by confirming that there was a Mathew born in 1886 in Ireland. I don't have the date of Bridget's birth in 1888 in Queensland but I could get that.

Mary died in Queensland in 1928. I don't know if spouse William left Ireland or not.

1928 Marnane  Mary - James Breen   Ellen Taylor

It seems the event registrations for this family in Queensland are MARNANE although there is a larger number of MURNANE also in that state. Yet to be confirmed that the names are not mixed.

Hello aghadowey,

Thank you very much for that record.  I've checked deaths in Queensland up to 1929 and there are no MARNANE listed as being born in Ireland. For MURNANE there are two:

1893  Murnane John - Murnane - ** born Ireland aged 89 years

1925  Murnane William - Murnane - Julia Ryan ** born Ireland aged 73 years

What I really need to find is the shipping record for at least two families. It looks as though the first birth in Queensland was in 1881 and the first and only one for William & Mary (nee BREEN) in 1888. To 1929 I can't find a death or a marriage for Matthew.

Fred

Hello enfield,

Thank you for that bit. At the moment I don't know how he fits in. All I can guess is that I'm missing some children between Thomas John born 1879 and Matthew born 1886. With the Queensland on-line Death Index cutting off in 1929 it makes it rather difficult finding the deaths of the children. It could take several weeks before I can get someone to look up the fiche which go to 1964.

I'm not having much luck finding any on the shipping records. Only two so far:

MARNANE Michael 19  'Dacca'  arrived 6 Jan 1890

There is a Michael buried in Toowong Cemetery in Queensland 1930 but his age is recorded as 59.

MARNANE William  29  'Rialto'  arrived  1883  Sydney   possibly the same as

Death 1925 Murnane  William  - Murnane -  Julia Ryan ** born Ireland aged 73 years

but unless his age is out in both those records unlikely to be the William who married Mary BREEN in 1867.

There is a William buried in Toowing Cemetery in 1948 with age recorded as 62 and that does not fit either.

There is a Matthew buried in 1933 age recorded as 44 and that's not a good fit either being 5 years out but possibly the one born in Cashel. I'd have to see the death record on the fiche to confirn it lists his mother as Mary BREEN.

The only other one is Ellen buried in 1940 age recorded as 66.

Hello seanmac,

Thank you very much. At the moment I don't know if any are connected. I noticed some in Clonmel, a connection to my great grandfather who was born there - St Mary's District, Union of Clonmel, Co Waterford from his birth certificate.

Regards,

Fred
