hi jane  i dont really know if my great grandfather came from donegal, but his  name (docherty)and his wifes name (gallagher) are both donegal names.in the 1901 cencus they lived at 205 main street bridgeton ,the rest of the family were  hugh 17  james15(my grandfather)  ann 11 john 9 ellen 6  katherine 2 .  both parents place of birth registered as ireland, childrens place of birth registered as glasgow.  on g/grandfathers death cert in 1932 his father is listed as john docherty (farm labourer) his mother is listed as agnes docherty afterwards odonnell m.s. docherty(a bit confusing)     thanks, doch

You have rung a bell with bridgeton and the surname Gallagher.
I have been intouch with a man named Gallagher who remember visiting Gallaghers in bridgeton.  If you are from this family you may be related to me.

Hi Doc,

Are you quite new to this?  I am getting quite confused with your grandmothes 2 surnames is it Gallagher or O'Donnell and I would think it is most probable that they came from Donegal.

Please get in touch and I will see if I can help you as I have done quite a lot of research in this area

Kind regards Jane Smiley
