Hi Brian: The Mount Zion website has a searchable database of burials in the cemetery there. Go to http://www.mountzionhalifax.org.uk and click on "Search burial records" on the left. I had a peek and found 70 Hartleys buried there. Many of the entries have photos of the gravestone. Many of my Slater relatives are buried there, and I found the photos invaluable, since the inscriptions frequently have information on previously unknown children who never appeared in censuses.

John
Thank's very much for your helpful response, the web site mentioned sounds  very interesting.
I have drawn a blank on David Hartley b 1772 Ovenden, but felt that the Zion Methodist  new connexion church was interesting as David Hartley and his wife Sarah's children were christened there.
Kindest regards and thanks Brian.

If you are searching for burials on the Mount Zion site don't forget to check the grave sales. A lot of the earlier ones can only be found there.

Hi Anne: Thanks for that. I think I found a grave bought in 1837 by a 3x great grandfather.

Hi Brian: Just wondering if you've made any progress on finding your David Hartley. I forgot to mention, when I posted in April that Mount Zion drew members from a fairly wide area. Two branches of my family met through Mount Zion. One branch was from Bradshaw, near Ovenden and Mount Zion. The other branch was from Thornton, several miles to the northeast.

Perhaps you might want to cast your net a little wider geographically, if you haven't already.

John
Sadly I have been unable to locate any details of his parents . David Hartley born in Ovenden in 1772.David Hartley and his wife Sarah Whitley of Lane end Ovenden. had a son called John Hartley bapt June 17th 1792.
I have details of the other offspring ,but have failed to locate information on 5 of the 7 known children.
Kind regards Brian.
