marriage in Letterkenny
« on: Wednesday 15 April 09 22:33 UTC (UK) »

Could anyone tell me if possible to get record of the marriage of Daniel Cassidy (son of William Cassidy) born in 1852 and Susan Langan born 1853 which took place in Letterkenny in 1876 approx , also James Doherty and Mary Ellen Langan (sister of Susan ) born in 1857, also married in 1879 approx.  I have been informed that church records go back to 1842 in Letterkenny.
thanks in anticipation of your help

Yes it certainly would be possible as civil registration began in 1864 for births, marriages and deaths - go onto family search org go to search pilot put in name and see what comes up

Here's the link to index of civil registrations:
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=collectionDetails;t=searchable;c=1408347
Had a quick look for Daniel Cassidy/Susan Langan and only Susan Langan marriage there is 1899 Dublin (and not to a Daniel Cassidy).
Also looked for Mary Langan but didn't see anything close.
Perhaps Langan is in the index under a different spelling?

Had a look at LDS catalogue (www.familysearch.org) and see that "The Catholic parish of Conwal and Leck, now called Letterkenny, includes the civil parish of Conwal and part of Leck. The Cathedral of St. Eunan, Letterkenny, is the seat of the bishop of the Diocese of Raphoe. There are chapels in Letterkenny and Kilpheak in addition to the Cathedral."
Parochial Registers of Conwal and Leck 1851-1962 (on 4 reels)- see site for more details.

There is lots of information here on Co. Donegal research- if you haven't seen it already it is well worth reading through:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~donegal/genbooklet.pdf
There's a chapter there on church records.
