Hi Kaellum,

I think they are called Gesney in 1851 - have a look at HO107/1907 225 8

The Cornwall OPC site shows a 1838 marriage at St Austell

John Gessney - Jane Robins

but John is a miller  Undecided
http://www.cornwall-opc-database.org/moreinfo.php?ID=460171&dbtype=marriages

The matching christening seems to be John Grisney in 1815

If you look at FreeBMD for St Austell the first time that Fewins appears there is in 1865 with the marriage of John Jnr.

Other than that its highest presence would seem to be in Devon.

So between 1861 and 1865 they would seem to have changed the name to Fewins.

I have been rooting around and Peter and Ann Grisney had a child called Peter in 1813 in Tavistock which brings us back to the Devon connection.

If you put Grisney into Family Search it only comes up with the family you have so what was this Grisney surname.
I Googled it and came up with Gris-Nez which is a place in France.

Was Grisney a French name (Peter was a mariner so could have come from there) and this is why it was changed to Fewins ? Did Peter Grisney marry an Ann Fewins ?

I will see if anyone at the DFHS can help.
