My daughter died 12 years ago and was cremated at Reading Cemetery - per her husband's wishes. Her ashes were scattered in the Garden of Remembrance at the crem - per her husband's wishes. There was no marker - per her husband's wishes.
On the day that she was cremated - Valentine's Day - it was cold and grey and awful. I never thought to take a picture.
Her birthday is coming up - May 8 - (she would have been 48 this year) and if some kind soul could take a picture of the Garden of Rememberance for me I would be forever grateful.
I'm 6,000 miles away and don't know when I shall get back to Reading.
Thanks so much in advance. Indi xxxx

Hi Indy,
I will ask my Mum or brother if they fancy a little trip out to Reading (they live in Uxbridge).
Can't promise, but we can try!

Do you mean the one on Henley Road or the one on London Road?

Yes please - I don't live awfully far from Reading, but I'd have to do it when my parents could take me - under 16.

Not everyone is 'old biddies' lol!
I think I may well be the youngest RootsChatter - the youngest after an 18 year old I have come across. Many of my friends shall have to pick up genealogy when they're much older

Thanks to everyone for your kind replies.
I'm not really sure which crem it is - I think it's the London Rd. one - but I could be wrong.
I do know that daughter's husband had a reception after the funeral at a pub called "The Little Waif" (I think. We didn't go - couldn't take the pain) But we passed it on our way back to the M4.
My internet is up and down at the mo - we are in the process of changing providers - sometimes it works - sometimes it doesn't! Kinda like me!
Matt94 - what a kind soul you are for such a young chap.
Love Indi xxx

Oh good ! She's back online ... for the moment !
Its nice, isn't Indi, when 'the young' are really good, kind, helpful people ... I think we all are guilty of assuming anyone without a bus pass is a lout ! But not Matt94 ... he's a gem ... he'll go far !

I think it is the Henley Road one - my Great-Grandfather, 'Grampy', as he was known, was buried in 1979 at 'a cemetery' after cremation at the same place. According to my parents, it's the Henley Road one. I don't know if the London Road one does cremations but I can't any either way.
Well there's an excuse to go to the cem - I want to see Grampy's grave
I'm not sure when I'll be able to get there though, possibly next weekend. Is that ok? I have French coursework to do - Speaking exam on tuesday

The pub - it wasn't the Wee Waif was it?
The only pub in Reading I can find is a Wee Waif so that's a possible?
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:*:IE-SearchBox&rlz=1I7ACPW_en___GB321&q=wee%20waif%2C%20reading&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl
It's on the Bath Road in Charvill so you probably did pass it on the way to M4

Good that Matt will be able to do it.
I have just had a message that my brother will not be able to get out that way for a while.

Hi russethouse,
After looking at pics on google - YES - I'm certain that it is the crem on Henley Rd.
It was all such a shock when it happened that I never did note the address.
If you could just take a quick pic for me of the garden - I will be forever in your debt.
If you can get a pic - send me a PM and I will give you my email.
I shall love you forever!
