Trying to find out about these two. They were possibly married in Dunnet, about 1820 and then moved to Walls and Flotta.
There may be variations on her surname.
Any help gratefully appreciated

Thank you very much for the names. I know that they were married in Dunnet and therefore assume that is where she came from. I wonder if James was born in Orkney or Caithness. I feel that it was Orkney.Any offers?

Found some more of James and Margarets children: George b 1825, Alexander b 1834, Elizabeth b 1839 and jessy had the middle name of Ronaldson.

Hi again, dont know if you got my personal message, I,m new to it so wasnt sure. Have got; James Johnston born 12/4/1795 to Peter Johnston and Elspet Sutherland Walls & Flotta. Also got James Johnston died a widower at Wasbister, Walls & Flotta on 14/12/1872 aged 77yrs son William present on death certificate.
Also on 1841 census for Walls & Flotta at Brims are: James and Margaret, John 15, Margaret 12, William 8, Alexander 6, Betsey3, George Sutherland 20 and Harriot Sutherland 20. Doesnt say what relationship George and Harriot are to the rest of the family but it looks like a connection to James,s mother

Some census info: 1851 James fisherman/farmer of 3 acres Brims, Margaret wife, John 28, Alexander 16, Elizabeth 12, Janet 7, George Ronaldson ( wonder if that should be Sutherland?)
1861 James, Peggey ( Margaret) William, Alexander, Betsey, Jessie & Andrew Chalmers servant. James is a farmer of 40 acres at Lyths, Walls & flotta on this census.
1871 James aged 78, no Margaret so it looks like she died between 1861 - 1871, William, Sarah ( his wife ) and Betsey 12, Sarah 2 and James 1 ( the last 3 are William and Sarah,s children ). It says Sarah was born in North Ronaldsay.

Margaret Johnston nee Ronaldson died at Lythes, Walls & Flotta on 12/6/1863 aged 69yrs. Her Parents were George Ronaldson and Margaret Ronaldson nee Miller.
The only Margaret Ronaldson I can find born in Caithness is Margaret on 13/3/1828 to George Ronaldson and Isobel Budge at Dunnet, so could be a relation!
Hope all this gets you somewhere.

Have had problems with my modem (Now fixed)
Thank you very much for the info it has been a great help and I will follow up some of the leads.
My surname is Sutherland and I already have about four different Sutherland lines in my tree so I do not suppose another is going to be a problem

You are brilliant. Managed to get James GGGrandfather. Cannot get anything on Elspet Sutherland but will keep looking
