Hello,
I am trying to work on a branch of my family that is causing a few headaches and wondered if anyone could assist..
My G Grandmother was Mary Flanery who was born in Rugeley,Staffordshire in 1866.She shows as being on the 1871 census with other siblings and her mother named Mary Flanary,widow..born about 1842 Ireland.They were living in Newark Notts at this time.
I have been trying to find out more about Mary Flanary senior and her husband as he is not mentioned.I have been informed that her son James' birth cert,states that his dad was James Flanery,labourer and that Mary was formerly Foley..This birth was registered in Spital Hill,Clarborough,West Retford?..7b 9 384....Was wondering if there are any marriage records for this area for James Flanery with Mary Foley?..looking for clues to where James Flanery came from too?..
It dosnt help as census records I have seen for Junior Mary have her surname corrupted with different spellings ie Flanary and Flanery.

Wonder if James and mary were not married until after birth of son james ?

This looks like a possibility for them in 1861
Little lane Clarborough Notts (E Retford reg district)

James Flannery Head 40 Hawker Ireland
Mary wife 23 Ireland
