Hi,
Does anyone know if Northamptonshire Record Office allows the use of digital cameras?
Thanks
Vicki

Perhaps the best person to ask is the archivist.
archivist[at]northamptonshire.gov.uk *
I can't find anything about it on their website.

I think they do, athough they insist, understandably, that documents made of parchment be only photocopied/photgraphed by the experts, and at a cost too! I wanted to scan a will and have it photographed I think the charge was something like £10.

Thank you, I just phoned them up and they told me I could take my camera....although they didn't say anything about parchment (and I've ordered around six 17th century title deeds, which could be a problem!)

Lol what I would give for 17th century deeds!
The guys in the Archives are very helpful. Good luck with your deeds.

Hi All.
Having taken many digital photographs at N.R.O. normally you have to fill in a copyright form noting every image you take and agree to personal use only.
I think the photographer is more than £10 now as a while ago he was £15.00.
I am surprised that you are being able to have out originals from that period too, but it will be great if you can take images of them.

It can vary so much (I work in an archives where we would never let researchers take their own photos )
I shall report back tomorrow. Seahall, they are old deeds from an estate collection so they've not been microfilmed etc, so the original format is the only way to acces them, lucky me!
