Annie Grant
« on: Sunday 12 April 09 21:11 UTC (UK) »

Hi I'm looking for any help in tracing the family of Annie Grant who moved to West Derby in Liverpool sometime before 1905. On the 1911 census it states she came from Fishorn Scotland - however the document looks to be corrected and internet searches have led me to Kishorn in the parish of Applecross. There seem to be a few families in the area in 1881-41 but the only reference is to an Annabella who was born in 1884 and not the 1888 I was led to believe (although this data could be innaccurate! Tongue). Is there any local experts who could put me on the trail of Annie Grant - it'd make my frustrated mother very happy indeed!

Hi

Welcome to Rootschat  Smiley

If you think she was from Ross-shire, there is an outside possibility in Dingwall in 1901

Tulloch Street, Dingwall
RD 62 ED 3 Page 14

Grant

Donald, 49, Mason
Mary, 45,
Annie C, 14 Scholar

All  b. Dingwall

and others..

The reason that it's worth considering is that the Gaelic for Dingwall is Inbhir Pheofharain which might have been misheard/transcribed - maybe Fifhorn

Did she marry in Liverpool or Scotland?  If she married, what were her children called - these might be a clue to parents names.

There are 105 Ann/Annie/Annabelle, etc. Grants b. 1887-1889 in Scotland - quite a few to work through.

Regards

I think checking for a marriage cert might be the best way to go - in England, you'll get a father's name whereas in Scotland you'll get both a father's and a mother's.
