Frogzy, would this request not be better put on the Kirkudbrightshire section of the Scottish board?  Your likely to get more help there.

Hi Frogzy

The closest I could find on Scotland's People free search was a John Grant born to John Grant and Agnes ? in 1838, but in Angus.

SP shows no births surname Grant to parents John Grant and Agnes Mcnish. Also no marriage for a John Grant and Agnes M*cnish.

Sorry I couldn't have been more help. Do you have any other information on him? Census records or other certificates?

Hi Kirsty.
No records as such, on his 2nd marriage cert'(in Australia) parents names are John Grant (Marster Mariner) and Agnes McNish, and his birth place is Kirkudbrightshire. No parents listed on his death, he jumped ship here in Australia, I did find the marriage of his parents   M005993  Source 093842  Years  1829-1834 on Latter Day Saints, 09 Nov 1839,St Nicholas Liverpool Lancashire England. No confirmed information on my part
