have you already seen this information alan, http://www.vwlowen.co.uk/wirral/hoylake.htm By the 1830's, with the silting of the Lake and the development of the New Channel to Liverpool, the traffic had ceased. By the end of the nineteenth century the Lake had disappeared altogether and the name Hoylake had been adopted to refer to the village which had formerly been known as Hoose. Hoose nestled in the sandhills between Little Meols to the West and Great Meols to the East. theres more info at, http://www.allertonoak.com/merseySights/WirralWC.html http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/chs/hoose.html http://www.answers.com/topic/hoylake

Hi,
The Hoylake web links interesting read. I spent my childhood/teenage years in West Kirby /Hoylake(1960's/70's). I remember a row of very old cottages on Market Street (near the former YMCA),I have never been able to locate a photograph of them.
Cheers Dolly.

Hi Challo,
I know where the Blue Anchor is located on left hand side of Market Street (if approaching from Meols),these cottages where on the right hand side.
They where very small inside with a "parlour", small kitchen/diner, 2 tiny bedrooms and a outside loo/red painted front doors.
The only other row of cottages I know that are still standing, are the ones which are located alongside the former Kwick Save supermarket.
Cheers Dolly.
