Sorry - couldn't see anything in the Fingest PRs. I also checked Bix as I have Newells in the area and I know there were a few from there - but no sign of your marriage, I'm afraid.

Hi Jill Thanks for looking.

Noticed you have researched William Newell in Berks, Bucks and Oxon around 1765.  You mentioned Bix not sure I know where this is?  My William is the father of Joseph George Newell, a carpenter from Naphill, Gt Kingshill, married to Sarah.
Any link?

Bix is in Oxfordshire, but only about 5 miles from Fingest.

As I've found, there are loads of Newells in this general area. I'm still not 100% sure I've found my William but I think he was from Great Marlow, Bucks.

Now it's my turn! Where is Naphill, Gt Kingshill? I can't find either !  Embarrassed Why do you think your couple might have married in Fingest?

Christine

I have the following marriage at Hambleden, Bucks, which might fit the bill:

25 Mar 1780   William NEWELL of Turville
Mary ATTKINS (signs ATKINS), by licence

Sorry, I don't have the witness names but I do have the following information from the Marriage Licence:

Dated 17 Mar 1780.   To marry at Hambleden
William NEWELL, 24, farmer of Turville
Mary ATTKINS, 22, of Hambleden

Jill

Both Naphill and Great Kingshill are part of the parish of Hughenden.  The village of Hughenden is in a valley and Naphill is on a spur of high ground between Hughenden and Princes Risborough.  Great Kingshill is on a spur of high ground between Hughenden and Great Missenden.  Both were once small hamlets but have since grown considerably.
