Hi there
I am trying to find out more info on my ancesters John and Martha Smith who were Gypsies. They are on the 1871 census in a caravan at Beacon Tree Heath, Dagenham with grandson John Amer - who was the son of their daughter Louisa. She was born about 1842 ( she married Tom Amer and was away with him at a fair in Finchley at the time of the census )
I have never found a marriage for Tom and Louisa or their births so no evidence of either of their fathers/ parents - I only found John and Martha by searching for John Amer.
According to the info given in 1871 John was born about 1820 in Norton Herts which I think was swallowed up by Letchworth Garden City. Martha was born about 1813 in Doddinghust Essex.
Also living with them was niece Mazelia Dighton and a family named King in another caravan.
I havent been able to find them on any other census.
I hope someone out there can help as I am well and truly stuck!
