Ballymena, Co Antrim, take me home...country roads

Crawford in Kilbirnie
« on: Saturday 18 April 09 18:26 UTC (UK) »

Hi all,

I am researching my family tree and have reached an impasse in Northern Ireland.
Basically, I know my direct line back to my GT(*4) Grandfather Robert (Robin) Crawford of Ballycregagh, Co. Antrim. The farm he ran is still in the family.
Most of the generations in between and inclusive of him are buried in the nearby Dunaghy Old Graveyard.
So what brings me to the Ayrshire page....
well, from records and gravestones I know the names of several more Crawfords in the area who were an older generation. But, in particular 2 of the gravestones in Dunaghy Old name a John and a James Crawford and they have family shields on their headstone.

I traced these shields to the family Crawford-Barclay of Kilbirnie.

So I wondered if anyone knows if records would exist in the church (or from this important family at the time) of family membersw who migrated to County Antrim in the 1600s-1700s.

Any help is gratefully received.

David
