LEE Family of Watford
« on: Sunday 19 April 09 11:39 BST (UK) »

What a open ended topic? I am sorry, but I am at a standstill ..... and I am not 100% the Lee family were from Watford!

Fact: David Rees of Haverfordwest, Wales married Mary Lee 5 May 1791 St. Paul Covent Gardens, Westminister.
This Mary Lee had sisters Elizabeth and Ann; and a mother Mary Lee, as per Wills and witness to certificates.

Now about this time a John Man(n)ing Lee married Mary Lea (e) 21 Jul 1763 Watford and had at least 3 chn: Elizabeth (bap 15/7/1764 Watford); Mary (bap 15/9/1766 Watford); and Ann (bap 15/10/1769 Watford); however, a James Lee and Mary .... also had 3 daughters: Elizabeth (bap 25/7/1765 St. John Hackney); Ann (Bap 3/3/1768 St. John Hackney); and Mary (bap 18/10/1770).

The above David Rees, innkeeper of the large Castle Inn, Haverfordwest and a number of farms in Pembroke lost his wife Mary Lee in 1793, after the births of John 1791 and William 1793. Although frowned upon, it is possible that the sister of his wife, namely Ann Lee, become his partner and mother of more siblings. As the descendants of these siblings also have Lee as a middle name for many years following.

Why Watford? One of these siblings, namely Dr. James Lee Rees of Bristol was left the Coles (Coals) Estate, Watford, when his father David Rees died in 1837. Was this then one of David Rees' farms or was it a farm inherited from the death of his wife's LEE family concerns.

Although, I realise Manning is a common English name. the sixth sibling was called George Manning Rees and he named his first child James Lee Rees, as well.

Finally, my request for help!!!!!!!

Does anyone know of the John Manning Lee born c. 5/7/1713 Watford and his wife Mary and their descendants?
Does anyone have any background knowledge on what could be the Coles (Coals ) farm estate in Watford, during the 1830's?

Keith (Australia)
