Lyons Family in Westmeath

I am looking for information on my gr grandfather, Thomas Lyons, and his father Patrick Lyons.

Thomas was born in Mar 1845 in County Westmeath and emigrated to America probably before 1870. He settled in New Jersey where he lived the rest of his life.

If anyone has information on this family in County Westmeath, I would love to hear about it.

None of the Census returns from this time-frame have survived but there is a Land Taxation survey called Griffiths Valuation available from which was carried out in Co. Westmeath in 1854

there are nearly 40 Lyons entries for the county and 3 Patrick Lyons.

The survey only lists head of the household - the data could be useful the establish possible locations for you Lyons ancestors to plan future research.

If any of the family were born in Ireland after 1864 they would be included in the Civil BMD registers
