Hello again Morskaj and thank you for this extra information.

John and Harriett were married in 1832 (so before civil reg) in St Peter's church, Nottingham.  I have found that, very often from this period, father's weren't mentioned but it is worth a try and I'll have a look at the church records as soon as possible.

As to the birth year, it consistantly ties in with 1807/8 on all censuses and also on his death record from freebmd:-
