Leckies of Largs, N. Ayrshire
« on: Thursday 20 January 05 01:06 UTC (UK) »

Seeking descendents of Archibald Leckie (b. 1852) and his wife Jessie Ferguson. His profession was Master Baker. They had nine children: Jessie, Mary, Esther, Archibald, John, Robert, Alexander, Neil and Gertrude. I am descended from Archibald's younger brother Henry Alexander (b. 1856).

Hi Wayne

As Archie's chirldren's births all took place after 1855 you will be able to locate their birth certs via Scotland's People at :

http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

Their parents names will be on the birth certs. Same applies for their marriages and deaths. On line you can see births up to 1906, marrianges up to 1931 and deaths to 1956 but you will have to buy credits to use the site (£6 for 30 credits minimum).

Records after this date are available on line but only at a GROS site (Glasgow or Edinburgh)

Hi just read your message and wonder if you are still searching. Have information of the family you are asking about as one of the sons was my grandfather.  Would be pleased to hear from you.  Hope you get this message.

Hi,

Many thanks for your message. I'm definitely still looking for descendents of Archibald! (No luck since posting in 2007, however.)

Would be happy to share information about my branch of the family.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Wayne - I sent a reply but checking the board I don't think it went through! So I will repeat again.  My grandfather was Neil Ferguson Leckie and his father was Archiebald Leckie.  The Leckie's came to Largs from Glasgow about 1895ish.  From the 9 children - 3 of them died quite young.
Archiebald's father was called Archiebald Leckie and he married a Mary McGilvray and they had - as far as I can gather - 4 children - Archiebald, Catherine, Henry Alexander and Mary Robina.  The father Archiebald left for the States in the 1860's and Mary McGilvray remarried a Joseph Millar
