Welcome to this weeks Scavenger Hunt.......I'm sure you'll find this one interesting, a little hard maybe, but you're up to it.
Good Luck and Good Hunting.

*****************************
My fathers tree has been researched for 30 years plus, so earlier years and up to the last decade have been done, by an experienced genealogist in our family, who sadly is no longer with us. But I have been rather curious about the circumstances of my gggrandfather dying in the Abbey Poorhouse, Renfrewshire, Scotland. It was thanks to Rootschat that I was able to obtain an address to write to for obtaining his admission papers.
When they duly arrived I had few surprises and obviously not known to family otherwise it would have been in the tree.
1. Alexander had applied three times to the Poorhouse, once in 1864 and twice in 1866. 2. Finally learnt his mothers name - as we just had his fathers. 3. Two more of his children also left Scotland for pastures new. 4. His religon
My gggrandfather was born 9 June 1799, Johnstone, Renfrewshire, Scotland to James McNeil (his name was taken from the death registration of Alexander) and Margaret McBride. Died 12 January 1867, in Abbey Poorhouse. Baptised 16 June 1799 Abbey, Paisley. He appears in the 1851 census as living at 17 Green Street, Barony, Glasgow, and was a cotton spinner. I guess he was Partially disabled due to this.
The two children that also immigrated are:
Janet McNeil born 6 Aug, 1822, Abbey, Paisley and doesn't appear in the 1851 census. On the 1864 admission she is recorded as being in America and in 1866 she is recorded as being married.
Archibald McNeil born 22 December 1836 Bridgeton, Glasgow, appears on the 1851 census as Errand boy with parents. On the 1864 admission he is recorded as being in America and 1866 is recorded as being married.
There is also the possibility that Janet and Archibald might not have stayed in America and could have moved on to pastures new.
I do a lot of transcribing of transciptions and have noticed a lot of young women travelling with families as either a nursemaid or maid, and wonder if Janet might have travelled with a family.
Even if I get just a tiny crumble of the brick wall would be appreciated and if there is no success in finding anything, don't worry, I guess they will surface in years to come.

Don't often get the chance to do this any more... so thought I'd get my 10 cents worth before everyone else got the bit between their collective teeth....

I will have a dig around what I can and see what comes up... didn't want to start re-inventing the wheel if you'd already been there and done that....

Hadn't got that far ..... but if they did move on .... as a single person or married is the question.
Just had a thought .... it would be a hoot if they came to NZ

They are my needle in the haystack.
My ggrandfather did go to Victoria for 2 years before coming here .... don't know why, unless one of the siblings was there.
I will have a dig around here to see what I can find, but will have to wait until morning,

Just Moi at 29 Days

Hi KHP,
I will have a quick check through some of my NSW records, but will not be around for most of the hunt. There are great links on the Australian Resources thread here on rootschat. Cheers,
Just Moi.
