just found this marriage ...look at mother's maiden name
Name: Neil Graham POB Paisley Ont 22years bc 1875 Father Name: John Graham Mother Name: Janet McNeil Date: 15 Mar 1897
found Janet McNeil's marriage to John Graham ...not her ...her dad is Neil McNeil.
errrrrrrrrr ummmm there are lots with MMN Janet McNeil
but this one is in the same area as
there is another Archie McNeil in Plymton, Lambton, Ontario 1881 but the childrens names are not following any patern. worth keeping a note of them though.
Alexander McDonald DOB 12 Oct 1878 Lambton Father: Donald McDonald Mother: Janet McNeil
added ...think this one is wrong too ...found a death of Janet McDonald in Lambton ..father = Hector Mcneil

Hi guys,
You have certainly been all busy while I have been in the land of nod. So sorry to be obtrusive and not put up Alexanders wife name ..... it was Janet McDougall and yes, there was another daughter named Margaret. The first Margaret died .... there were also two unnamed twins 1831.
Alexander was my uncle and he isn't mentioned on the admission form as being overseas yet my ggrandfather is.
I am not surprised you have picked up the naming patterns of children, because both Daniel and his father used the naming patterns for their children, and a couple of their children continued the tradition for a couple of generations.
I am here for a short while, I have to go and give some fasting bloods soon

Right Janet McDougall was born about 1800 in Johnstone to Alexander McDougall and Janet Sinclair. Janet died 27 December 1857 in 599 Gallowgate and buried 1 January 1858 Eastern Necropolis Gasglow.
Two other children to add to Alexander McNeil and Janet McDougall.
James born 2 Oct 1823 Abbey; ch 26 Oct Abbey
Margaret born 9 May 1833 Bridgeton, ch 16 June Barony

Me again
Right the naming patterns, and my thoughts are:
Do not know who Alexander born 1799 is named after ... either is fathers side or mothers.
Janet born 1822 named after her grandmother McDougall
James born 1823 named after his fathers father
Alexander born 1825 named after his father/grandfather McDougall
Margaret born 1827 (died between 1827-1833) named after her fathers mother. Usually when a child dies, the next child is named after the child that has died, I have that in a couple of generations.
and have no idea where Daniel, Elizabeth and Archibald come from, unless it is from the McDougall side.

Hi KHP
Nice to be here when you are almost 6;30pm Wed here
So Alexander's admission forms only state Janet and Archie being overseas .... who else was mentioned?
Geeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzzz this is really frustrating ...will persevere though.

another thought ....
If Archie and janet did get married how would their naming patterns go ...
would Artchie's eldest son be name Alexander and eldest daughter be Janet? Or is eldest daughter named after mother's mother's name ...arrghhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Hi deb,
10.43 am Thurs here.
Sorry this is so frustrating .... but you guys have excellent talents from what I have seen on other hunts.
The only other person mentioned on the admission form for being overseas was my ggrandfather Daniel who was in Australia for a couple of years before coming here.
As for the naming of the children, I would say after the father. Looking at my tree, the first daughter has been named Janet then the 2nd one named after the mother i.e. Isabella. The father if he is named say George, then Alexander has continued being named for the 1st son ..... if that makes sense to you.

okay ...so if say Janet married a George then the first son would still be Alexander after her father or after his father .... OMG
