My mum grew up in Fosse Road South area and says she remembers an orphanage on the corner of Fosse Road South and Westcotes Drive in the thirties and early forties. As far as she can remember it was mainly girls and was managed by nuns. Hope this is useful. TL
Hi Need to be a bit careful here. I grew up on the corner of Fosse Road North and Glenfield Road. The establishment on Fosse Road South was / is the Wyggeston Hospital (plenty of references by Google). There was also an Infant Orphan Asylum at about No 6 Fosse Road Central (almost on the corner of Kirby Road opposite St Paul's Church). It is marked on the Ordnance Survey Map of Leicester NW (1902). As far as I am aware it had gone by the 1950s. The whole area has been bulldozed and redeveloped as the diverted King Richards Road / Hinckley Road (A47) Alan
