Hi Alfreton People I live in NZ and am trying to trace Family in Derbyshire Bond Family. My paternal great x3 grandfather married a Mary Bell in Heanor in 1817, a record I've been sent says George Bond and Mary Bell by banns 24/7/1817, witnesses. Michael Hardy & Betty Synis. Another reference to this marriage states witnesses were Michael Hardy and Betty Eyres, vicar John Thompson. I can't trace George's death but must have been prior to 1831, however I am interested in the remarriage of Mary, I have been sent a Philimore's reference re the marriage in Alfreton the date is 31/1/1831. I have traced census records which gives a variation on the spelling of the surname, IGI has two references for her marrying two different spellings of the name on the same day, one being Sanderford. Mary appears in the 1841 census as being married to James Sanderford with two children from her first marriage, Andrew and George Bond together with a son James from the new marriage. Two things I really want to clarify is the correct surname and whether the marriage record shows whether it is said that she was a Widow. The surname seems to have at least 4 variations. Any information or suggestions of where to look would be gratefully received. BELLBIRD

Hello again Lyn
Both entries, from the Phillimore's and the PR's, say Staniford with no indication as to whether she was a Widow or not. Some of the entries on the IGI are only submitted so I wouldn't pay too much attention to them. Have you checked FreeBMD for a death entry for both James & Mary to see if it says Staniford or Standiforth?
