SMITH DORRIEN or DORRIEN SMITH ?
« on: Wednesday 22 April 09 06:43 UTC (UK) »

Large well to do family from Berkhamstead, Haresfoot House.

Banking family in 1880s - Thomas A (b 1846) was a J.P.
Robert Algernon (b 1815) was a L Col

The surname seems to have been used both ways round - it's very confusing to find in the censuses.

Has anyone got any info on them, or Haresfoot House?

together with the Constable-Curtis family of whom Frank John (b1857) married Laura Mildred D.S. in 1886 they must have owned much of Berkhamstead.

and Laura Mildred seems to have been born Dorah Helen because there is only one daughter listed as born that year. Would a radical name change have occured?

Any help gratefully received.
Thanks, Mary  Smiley

Wow Prue - what a fantastic website - gives me loads of sideways to go - Thank you very much.  Cheesy

Seems to be a Laura and a Dorah then  Undecided will have to look further into that. I could only find the one birth and thought she had changed her name.
